Tehran arrests journalist Morad Saghafi ahead of elections

The center for human rights in Iran (CHRI) has observed an increased onslaught on journalists, civil advocates, women’s rights activists, dual nationals, ethnic and religious minorities, since January 2017. The arrests can be interpreted as reflecting a growing rivalry between the Iranian Intelligence Ministry and the IRGC, and as part of an increased crackdown before the May elections. The latest victim of these arrests is Morad Saghafi, journalist and editor in chief of the reformist Goftegoo magazine.
