Tehran bans teen Iranian chess players

Iran bars two teen siblings from participating in local and international chess tournaments. The Iranian national chess team dismissed 18 year old Dorsa Derakhshani for appearing at the Tradewise Gibralter Chess Festival 2017 without the compulsory Islamic hijab. Her 15 year old brother, Borna Derakhshani, was also banned for playing against an Israeli opponent. The measures were announced by the head of the Iranian chess federation, stating that the two teens had hurt Iranian national interests.
