Another American-Iranian sentenced to 18 year in jail for “spying”

Following the convictions of American-Iranians Siamak Namazi and his father Baquer Namazi to 10 years in jail for “collaborating with a hostile government (the US)”, the Iranian authorities have convicted another American-Iranian, Reza Shahini, to 18 year in jail on similar charges. In both trials, the defendants were not shown any of the evidence against them and the claim that the US is a “hostile government” isn’t even backed by the Iranian law since only one country is deemed a “hostile government” – Israel. The arrests of these America-Iranians run counter to Rouhani’s call to be “hospitable” to foreign businessmen who should be allowed to “come and leave Iran easily”. Regional analysts believe that the regime in Tehran is arresting dual nationals form Western countries in an effort to extort money (“billions”) or to pressure Western countries into further concessions.
