Iranian journalists intimidated by Ministry of Intelligence

Following the crackdown on Iranian journalists critical of the Iranian regime last November, agents of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence are systematically reaching out to other reporters and warning them not to “cross red lines”.

An Iranian reporter who understandably wants to remain anonymous, tell of receiving a call from an agent who “invited” him to a “friendly” meeting in a restaurant. During the meeting, the agent warned him that he was under surveillance and should watch out. Furthermore, the agent added that the reporter should not raise any hopes about an increase in freedom of the press under Rouhani and a moderate parliament.
