Reporters Without Borders award Iranian journalist “heroine” status

Narges Mohammadi is an Iranian reporter who has been forced to return to jail despite a severe medical condition. She is a spokesperson for the “Centre for Human Rights Defenders” and has been targeted by the regime to be jailed over and over again.

This time, she was re-arrested for “activities against national security”, another vague charge which is used to shut down any criticism of the regime. Instead of taking her to court for the new accusations, her old prison term for which she was released to obtain medical treatment was simply reinstated. Reporters Without Borders declared her a “heroine journalist” and rated Iran 173 out of 180 in the press freedom index.
